Terms of Service
Terms of Service
These Terms apply to people age 18 or older who use beanote, including its account features, private coffee records and share links, and photo-analysis tools provided by CoffeeCherry.
Effective date and last updated: September 29, 2026
1. Application of These Terms
Email verification confirms your account. It does not replace your agreement to the required terms. Before you use the app, you must review and expressly agree to the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Core Photo Analysis notice. You cannot use beanote until you agree to all required items.
These revised Terms take effect for beanote 1.3.6 only after you expressly accept them; the prior accepted version remains in effect until then. We will give at least seven days' notice in the app or on the web before an ordinary material change takes effect, and at least 30 days' notice before a material change that is unfavorable to users, unless a legal requirement, security threat, or other urgent circumstance requires earlier action. A change requiring consent takes effect for you only after you review the revised terms and expressly agree again. If you do not accept, you may stop using the affected service and request account deletion; required acceptance is not inferred from silence or continued use. Previous versions remain available from the July 17, 2026 Terms.
The current app does not offer Community posting and does not collect a Community Posting Terms acceptance. Its required agreement items are the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and core photo-analysis notice described above. Community Posting Terms (community-terms-v1) and related acceptance records belong to earlier versions and may be retained only as historical policy evidence where needed. The Community tab currently shows only the notice A better community is on the way.
That notice is compatibility information only and does not provide access to historic Community data or functions.
2. Accounts and Eligibility
- You must create an account with an accurate email address that you are authorized to use and keep your authentication information secure.
- You must be at least 18 years old to register for or use beanote.
- You must promptly contact customer support if you discover suspicious activity on your account.
- You must not use another person's account or share or intercept verification codes.
3. Nature of the Service
beanote provides OCR and AI-assisted analysis of coffee-package photos, private coffee records, comparisons across your own repeat logs for the same coffee, and user-created coffee-record share links. Version 1.1 offers only a notice-only Community tab; it does not offer a public feed, posts, replies, reactions, post management, or Community permalink previews. Recognition and recommendation results may be inaccurate due to photo quality, labeling formats, external data, or model characteristics, so you should verify important information against the original source.
beanote no longer offers general coffee logging on the web or a Community interface. Those routes lead to the installation guide or service home; they do not reopen the web app. This does not delete account data, records, or historical Community data. The iOS App Store link is active. The Google Play link is also active now that Android is publicly available.beanote.me remains available for service APIs, the protected admin console, app links, legal notices, customer support, data-deletion information, account deletion, and exact-link coffee-record previews.
Nearby café search
Introduced in native 1.3.6, nearby café search is a location-based feature provided by CoffeeCherry. During the initial consent review, three agreements are required, while location for nearby café search and images for AI model improvement are two separate optional choices. Agree all includes both; neither is needed to use Lens or other core features. A location choice made before sign-in is only a draft. It is saved for the correct authenticated account on this device only after that account completes agreement to the required terms. The nearby-search choice enables Google Maps search and the separate on-device location choice together. Turning it off stops Google search and location use; internal suggestions and manual place entry remain available. Settings > Privacy shows both optional switches in the same card. You can turn location on directly after seeing its purpose and recipient, Google LLC, with expandable details, or turn it off at any time. No separate search consent popup is shown. You can also contact beanote Support atbeanote@coffeecherry.co.
In native 1.4.1, opening the foreground Lens café-search step after enabling nearby search starts a nearby query and obtains one location fix for that visit if OS access is granted. The initial query is for cafés; a name you type narrows the results with the same current latitude and longitude through an authenticated request to beanote and Google LLC's Places Text Search. Location is never used in the background. If OS access is denied or the fix times out, distance-ranked results are not requested; separately approved name-only search and manual entry remain available. Google results and their required attribution are transient. If you select a café, only its place ID and your editable café label are saved with the coffee record; provider address and other results are not saved. beanote does not write the raw query or coordinates to durable storage or logs. We retain a minimal location-use confirmation event containing your account ID, time, fixed purpose, provider, and notice version for six months, including after withdrawal of permission or account deletion; it contains no query or coordinates and is then deleted. Google processes its request under theGoogle Maps Platform Places policies,Google Terms of Service, andGoogle Privacy Policy.
Features may be added, changed, or discontinued as the service improves. Where possible, we will give at least seven days' notice of an ordinary material feature change or prolonged interruption, and at least 30 days' notice if a material change is unfavorable to users, except where a legal requirement, security threat, or other urgent circumstance calls for earlier action. We may modify or discontinue a feature where reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, or service operation. We will provide a reasonable opportunity to export or delete data when practicable.
4. Private Records and Historical Community Data
You retain ownership of the records, photos, and notes you create. Within your chosen visibility and this Privacy Policy, you grant CoffeeCherry a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license, including sublicensing to processors, to store, reproduce, format, transmit, display, moderate, secure, and make technical copies as reasonably needed to provide, maintain, and improve beanote. This does not authorize public display of a private record; that requires your explicit sharing action. You must hold the rights needed for the content you submit. Coffee records, record photos, notes, and recipes stay private unless a feature clearly asks you to publish something. The signed-in same-coffee comparison uses only coffee records belonging to your account. It may show selected details from those records, such as a rating, date, place, note, or brew information, to help you compare repeat experiences. It does not display record photos, Community averages, or another user's data, and it does not make any record public.
If you create a share link for a coffee record, anyone with its exact, unlistedhttps://beanote.me/records/<share-id> address can view that record without signing in. The page may include its coffee and roaster names, rating, calendar date, place, brew method, coffee details, user note, and recipe. It does not include the record photo, your account name or identifiers, or another record. Review the disclosure shown before creating the link and do not share a record containing information you do not want a recipient to forward, copy, or capture. Editing the record disables the current link; sharing again creates a new address. Stopping sharing, deleting the record, or deleting your account makes the beanote page unavailable, but cannot recall copies already made outside beanote.
Version 1.1 does not let users create, view, reply to, react to, manage, or share Community content. A https://beanote.me/community/<post-id> permalink preview is not a current 1.1 product feature. The pause does not make private coffee records public and does not republish Community data created under earlier versions.
Posts, replies, attachments, consent evidence, deletion records, reports, blocks, and moderation or safety evidence created under earlier Community versions may be retained, deleted, de-identified, or preserved only as described in the Privacy Policy and as necessary for an applicable deletion request, safety review, dispute, abuse prevention, or legal obligation. If a historic item remains associated with your account, permanent account deletion starts the applicable deletion or de-identification process. beanote cannot recall screenshots, forwarded messages, cached previews, or other copies that third parties made before the pause.
You must not upload content that infringes another person's copyright, trademark, or privacy, or that you are not authorized to photograph or store. You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed to submit your content and to grant the license above, and that your content and use of beanote comply with law and these Terms. You remain responsible for your content and for keeping any copies you need.
CoffeeCherry owns beanote and its software, design, brand, and other service materials. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the service as made available and under these Terms. You may not copy or commercially exploit our service materials, remove proprietary notices, reverse engineer or derive source code except where applicable law permits, or use the service to build or support a competing product. All rights not expressly granted remain with CoffeeCherry or its licensors.
5. Prohibited Conduct
- Submitting illegal, hateful, threatening, harassing, or obscene content, or another person's personal information
- Sexual exploitation, child sexual abuse material, grooming, or content that endangers a child
- Spam, scams, deceptive links, repetitive promotion, or coordinated manipulation of service reports or safety processes
- Accessing, bypassing, or disrupting the service, an account, an API, or a security control without authorization
- Sending automated bulk requests or malware, scraping or collecting data through unauthorized or automated means, or using content, accounts, or service outputs to build datasets or products without authorization
- Copying, reselling, reverse engineering, or creating derivative works from the service or its software, except where applicable law permits
- Impersonating another user or CoffeeCherry, or deceptively manipulating service results
- Violating applicable law or a third party's rights
6. Photos, AI, and Optional Consent
Core Photo Analysis is a required item that helps us suggest coffee information and create records. Photos are processed by beanote servers and Google Cloud Vision only after you separately agree to it before starting the app. Version 1.0.2 remains Vision-only. On version 1.0.3 or later, after you accept the updated required photo-analysis notice and the server rollout gate is enabled, the paid Google Gemini service may be used only when Vision and beanote analysis cannot identify needed coffee fields sufficiently. When usable OCR evidence exists, only the minimum OCR text needed to fill missing fields is sent; the same sanitized JPEG copy and necessary OCR context are sent only for visual fallback signals such as failed or weak OCR. Google LLC acts as beanote's processor, and paid-service inputs and outputs are not used to improve Google products. See Core Photo Analysis in the Privacy Policy for details.
Before upload, the app's on-device canvas recreates the selected photo as a high-quality JPEG copy whose longest edge is no more than 4096px. This removes file metadata, including EXIF and GPS data. The photo-analysis file you selected on your device itself is not uploaded.
Introduced in native 1.3.6, nearby café search is a separate optional feature. The initial consent review has three required agreements and offers its location choice beside the optional AI model-improvement choice; Agree all selects both, but neither is required for Lens or core features. A pre-sign-in choice is only a draft and applies to this device's correct authenticated account after agreement to the required terms is completed. Declining nearby search stops Google search and location use; internal suggestions and manual place entry remain available. Settings > Privacy keeps both switches visible and lets you change location directly after a purpose and Google LLC recipient summary, with expandable details. There is no extra search popup. In native 1.4.1, entering the foreground Lens café-search step after opting in starts one nearby search and obtains one location fix for that visit when OS permission allows it. The initial café query and later typed names use that fix for distance-ranked results. OS denial or a timeout stops nearby ranking; typed name-only search and manual entry remain available. The search sends the query and permitted current coordinates through beanote to Google Places Text Search; raw query and coordinates are not written to durable storage or logs. Selecting a café saves only its place ID and your editable label with the record, not the provider address or other results. A location-use confirmation event is retained for six months, including after withdrawal or account deletion. Google processes the request under its applicable terms and privacy policy. Location is not used in the background.
On version 1.0.4 or later, after you accept the current required notices and the server rollout gate is enabled, beanote may use a saved roaster or café name by itself with the paid Gemini service and grounded web search to propose official Instagram, Naver Store, Naver Place, and logo-source candidates. No account or record identifier, photo, note, recipe, rating, timestamp, or location is included. Suggested links are shown only after destination and business-identity validation, and a logo is shown only after human review of the exact asset and its content-rights evidence.
The sanitized analysis-original JPEG copy and the intermediate or derivative JPEG copies created for OCR and analysis are each retained for up to 365 days from creation. This period does not apply to your coffee records or the photos displayed with them.
Providing images for beanote model improvement is optional, separate from the paid Gemini processing used for core photo analysis, and OFF by default. Once enabled, the setting remains ON until you turn it OFF or permanently delete your account. Only photos newly uploaded after you consent may have the same high-quality, EXIF/GPS-free JPEG copy retained exclusively in private Google Cloud Storage for up to 365 days from creation. You may use core features without consenting. Keeping the setting OFF or withdrawing consent stops new copies from being provided and queues existing contributed copies for early deletion. Permanently deleting your account also queues linked model-improvement copies for deletion before 365 days have elapsed. See Images for Model Improvement in the Privacy Policy for details.
7. Historical Community Safety, Service Enforcement, and Termination
Version 1.1 does not provide Community reporting, blocking, moderation, or interaction controls. Historical Community reports, blocks, moderation decisions, and related evidence remain subject to the retention and deletion rules in the Privacy Policy. We may preserve, review, filter, hide, remove, or de-identify historic content and evidence, and warn, restrict, suspend, or terminate an account when reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, protect users, comply with law, or investigate misuse.
The Community pause does not reopen prior posts, feeds, management screens, or public previews. It also does not prevent us from responding to an access, deletion, safety, dispute, or legal request about historical Community data through customer support or the account-deletion process.
Safety screening and moderation performed for an image submitted in an earlier Community version supported, but did not replace, lawful review of a related report or preservation request.
You may permanently delete your account at any time in the app or on the account deletion page. Permanent deletion also starts the deletion process for personal data linked to the account. We may reasonably restrict content or suspend or terminate an account when required by law or reasonably necessary because of a violation of these Terms, a security risk, or the need to protect other users. Except in urgent circumstances, we will explain the reason and how to appeal to the extent possible.
8. Responsibility and Warranties
We provide the service with reasonable care, but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation or that recognition, recommendations, third-party information, other users' conduct, or the service will be error-free or fit for every purpose. To the extent permitted by law, CoffeeCherry disclaims implied warranties and is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, including lost profits, data, or business opportunity. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for intentional misconduct, gross negligence, liability that cannot be limited under mandatory consumer law, or your statutory rights. You are responsible for your unlawful use and content. To the extent permitted by law, you will indemnify CoffeeCherry for third-party claims and reasonable costs caused by your breach of these Terms, unlawful use, or content you lacked the right to submit; we will notify you and allow reasonable participation in the defense, and no settlement may impose an admission or duty on you without your agreement.
9. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. If a dispute arises, you and CoffeeCherry will first attempt to resolve it in good faith. If it remains unresolved, it will be handled by the court having jurisdiction under the Korean Civil Procedure Act and other applicable law. Your statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.
10. Contact Us
Optional Google Maps place search
When this feature is available, you can separately allow Google Maps search to find a café or roastery while logging a coffee. Declining or turning it off does not prevent manual entry, photo analysis, or other coffee-record features.
Google Maps search is subject to the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy. Search results can be incomplete or out of date. Check the address before linking a place, or enter the name manually.
